This year we are celebrating the 8th year of our Respect Life Club! As we start this year, we will take on a new name - Footprints for Life! As we all strive to become saints, we can use our talents, prayers and resources to build a Culture of Life! The club is divided into two groups. One group is for 4th & 5th graders and the other for 6th & 7th graders. Our meeting dates for each group is listed on the next Respect Life Club page and on the SEAS website calendar. All meetings are at 8:00 am in Mrs. Follette's Classroom.
Both groups emphasize the importance of LIFE from creation until natural death in a POSITIVE way. Through the clubs, students are given an opportunity to learn more about the value of LIFE and how they can make a difference through prayer and service projects.
This program is approved by the Office of Catholic Schools, the Religious Education Department and the Respect Life Office of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. It can be used as a supplement in the classroom. We have started working on the process of having it become part of the curriculum, but this will take a little longer.
It is designed to encourage and empower children to build a Culture of Life. This program builds on a foundation of love, dignity, compassion & truth. The program covers all of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) Culture of Life topics age-appropriately, and incorporates the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy into the study of these issues. It is designed to be easily integrated into a busy schedule.
The program was created to focus on one or two USCCB Respect Life topics per month. Each month contains everything needed to share the lesson with the children. The lessons offer material that can be incorporated into one meeting or carried out in several meetings. “Footprints for Life” is designed to be used during the school year, September – May.
The two primary goals of this program are:
1. For each child to believe that he or she is created in the image of God. For every child to know that he or she has a purpose in this world - A specific purpose that God has planned for them. The most basic way to instill this in children is to believe in them and pray for them.
2. For children of all ages to know that the smallest action will make a difference in this world. By educating, empowering and encouraging them, they will be able to know that their actions and words will help others.
Mother Theresa said – “Do small things with GREAT love.” -a simple prayer can save a life!
By teaching our children to pray for, respect, and support those in need, we raise children that stand for what they believe in and, most importantly, come to know that God will provide. Our children can become the footprints for those who can’t find the strength to walk through life’s difficult roads. Children today have a very strong passion to help others - they just need a path.
This program is available for use by those volunteering or employed by the Archdiocese of New Orleans "free-of-charge" for the 2016-2017 year. It is intended to be used by the coordinator of the ?Footprints for Life program. It can also be used by the teachers and staff of the Archdiocese with their students as a supplement.
It's never too late to join the Footprints for Life Club. Membership is open year round and all students are welcome. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected]
God Bless,
